Braymore Piano Movers

Ontario’s most reliable piano moving service.

Piano Moving Prep List

  • They expect a legal parking spot near the entrance to move the piano in and out.
  • They expect you to be ready to start the job upon their arrival.
  • They will expect a clear and clean pathway through your home or business.
  • A responsible person on-site who knows what is happening, where it is going, how it will be positioned in the space, and can sign off on the paperwork.

Industry Standard: Your problem, not theirs.

Not having a legal spot available could result in your delivery being rescheduled to another day at your expense. It is your responsibility to reimburse any parking tickets incurred on your move. This would be considered part of your move costs.

Movers will always do their best to avoid tickets, but it is your responsibility to do the legwork beforehand and ensure they know where to go and park before arrival. When they arrive, they expect to see an obvious parking spot. Failing that, they try to find the next available option and hope for the best. Any parking tickets received will be added to the bill. If you do not want them to take that risk, send them on their way at your expense and schedule another time when you can ensure parking is available.

Tip: While we do not recommend illegal parking. Generally, the parking ticket is the cheaper option and at some locations, the only viable option. You never know whether you will win that lottery.

No, they are a safety requirement. Demanding this could get you sued if something happened to the worker.

Industry standard: The Ministry of Labour requires the use of safety shoes when moving heavy items.

Shoes and boots also provide the worker with traction. Moving a piano without proper footwear is a piano-moving accident waiting to happen.

You can expect to do some cleanup after your move. Good movers will try their best to minimize this for you.

Tip: Most good movers have extra moving blankets and runners to help protect floors. Share your concerns with the piano movers when they arrive, so they can best meet your expectations.

Nobody likes surprises, including the piano movers.

Industry standard: If it is not on the order, movers are not supposed to touch it.

Never assume that they will have time to do other items for you. Your quote is based on what you told the company at the time of booking, unless you are paying an hourly rate. You are not their only stop. All delivery companies run on a schedule. This type of surprise may result in your move being rescheduled to another day at your expense if it exceeds the allotted time.

Honestly, it depends on the situation and the day. Let’s be clear, unless it is part of the order, it is not their responsibility to do this. It should have been done before their arrival.

These are the two most common situations:

  • They have some extra time and are kind enough to help. Note: there could be an additional charge for this.
  • They do not have time, and your move gets rescheduled at your expense.

Unfortunately, you never know until they arrive which scenario it might be until it actually happens. We always recommend that you complete your prep work before they arrive. When in doubt, contact their office in advance to determine your options.

That is a problem. Pianos are heavy; you do not shift them around like a vase.

Industry Standard: We place it where you want, the first time. After that, it is considered a second move.

Piano movers can give some basic advice based on what they have seen elsewhere, but they are not the ones looking at it every day. Please ensure you have finalized your floor plan before their arrival.

Tip: Some people place templates on the floor beforehand to better understand the space.

Make sure all your walkways are thoroughly shovelled and salted. If they arrive and deem your place unsafe to work, that is your problem and expense to reschedule their return. The Ministry of Labour is very clear that it is your responsibility to ensure your work site is safe before their arrival.

Piano Movers require traction to safely push and pull your piano. Remember, the average piano weighs 500 pounds or more. Just because you can walk on a semi-clear surface safely does not mean you can move a piano through it safely—traction matters.

Will the movers clear a path through the snow for me, or wait for me to do it?

Rule of thumb: No, unless they have some spare time and are feeling very generous.

  1. It is not their job to do so.
  2. They have other people/deliveries expecting them.

Industry Standard: Your job will be rescheduled at your expense.
